Home of Halloween

Delve into Fingal’s fascinating folklore this Halloween with 100+ family-friendly events, workshops, storytelling and curated cultural events.

The season where nothing is as it seems…

Ireland Home of Halloween in Fingal has an action-packed programme with 100+ events all over the county throughout October and even into November. Halloween comes to life with fire and local folklore in fascinating castle settings, as you learn more about the Samhain tradition of historic Fingal.

The veil is thin between this world and the next. Mischief is ever afoot in Malahide Castle with Puck the poltergeist. The spectral Lady of the Stairs lingers at Ardgillan Castle as does the cold touch of the mermaid at Howth Castle.

And after dark at ominously named Hearse Road you might glimpse a phantom coach drawn by headless horses and driven by an ancestor of the Cobbe family from nearby Newbridge House.

Samhain is the ancient Celtic festival that marked the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. Ireland is the birthplace of Halloween, and we have been celebrating it for over 2,000 years.

Fingal is proud to be part of Ireland Home of Halloween, an all-island tourism strategy led by Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland.
