Among the Trees

A wealth of paths and trails in leafy parks.

If you’re looking for leafy green parks and wide open spaces – Fingal is the place to go with parks aplenty. 2,000 hectares of public parks and open spaces to be specific.

Public parks have networks of paths and trails generally suitable for all to access. The Fingal heritage properties of Malahide Castle, Newbridge House and Ardgillan Castle all have rolling green meadows and ancient woodland areas open to the public.

Other parks are dotted all over Fingal, including:

Santry Demesne on the site of a once palatial old house has a children’s playground and a community garden as well as lots of pathways. Parking outside is free of charge.

Tolka Valley Park comprising nearly 300 acres of wetlands, wildflower meadows and woodland. It follows the Tolka river valley which is rich in plant and animal life.

Millennium Park is really conveniently located beside Blanchardstown Town Centre, Draíocht Arts Centre and Blanchardstown Library. It is planned around old walled gardens which will soon be restored.

St. Catherine’s Park/Lucan Demesne is 200 acres of woodland and grassland, with the river Liffey meandering through it. Several counties share the park– Fingal, Kildare and South Dublin. Watch out for kayaks on the river or you might even catch a cricket match on a summer evening.
