Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio
An Evening @ The Howth Radio Museum
The Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio was the brainchild of Pat Herbert, originally from Rathnamagh, Ardagh, Co. Mayo. Pat’s fascination with radio began in 1947, when he was just 10 years old. He listened to the All-Ireland Football Final being broadcast from the Polo Grounds in New York and was amazed by how clearly Michael O’Hehir’s voice could travel across the Atlantic.
Throughout his life, Pat collected items relating to radio and communications. After retiring, he decided to share his collection with the public. In early 2003, he met with Fingal County Council and agreed to exhibit his collection in Martello Tower #2 in Howth. Following work by the local Lions Club to convert the tower’s interior, the museum was born, bringing a unique new attraction to Howth.
Opening Hours: 11am to 4pm (Last Tour @ 3pm)
